THE TANAKA FOUNDATION

Tanaka Foundation is an initiative that raises support and awareness for HIV/AIDS crphans around the world with particular emphasis on Zimbabwe. The foundation is based on the premise that all children deserve a safer, healthier and happy life. Our aim is to ensure every one of these vulnerable children gets access to proper medical care, education, clean living conditions and a chance to build a brighter future. We intend to do this by becoming advocates for HIV/AIDS orphans and vulnerable children by raising the level of funding by governments of wealth nations and also by encouraging active participation from their citizens and corporations.

Tanaka Foundation assists orphans and other AIDS affected children in every possible way, from the payment of school fees to the provision of food; supports heroic grandmothers, who bury their own children and almost single-handedly care for their orphan grandchildren; and supports associations of people living with HIV/AIDS, courageous men and women who have openly declared their status.

It is estimated that by year 2010 almost 20million children will have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS and millions more children will be orphaned by tuberculosis, malaria or have parents who are sick and dying. These children need a voice to speak for them since their parents cannot.

Here are the facts:

Everyday 1600 children die of HIV/AIDS....THEIR LIVES CUT SHORT

In Sub-Sahara Africa alone, 12 million children have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS-WHO WILL RAISE THEM

In 2006 1 million African children lost their teachers to HIV/AIDS-WHO IS GOING TO TEACH THESE CHILDREN (Unaid Statistics)

Up to 20% of nurses in South Africa are HIV positive-WHO WILL CARE FOR THESE CHILDREN (Nursing World)

Across the country, people just like you are helping these vulnerable children find a hope for a brighter future, get medication and support as they must confront the overwhelming social stigma of their disease to even show up for treatment.

HELP US SAVE THE CHILDREN. Tanaka Foundation in conjuction with ZimLife Productions organises various fundraising events in and around the Greater Toronto area to help achieve this goal. By supporting these events with your presence, no matter how little you give, it will do something positive that will save a life of a child living with HIV/AIDS

For more information on the many ways in which you can  us save the children, and if you interested in helping the situation in the Zimbabwe you might like to consider how to sponsor a child in Zimbabwe

THE FACTS

  • Zimbabwe is the worst hit country in Africa. Every 4 in 10 people have AIDS.
  • Life expectancy has dropped to 38 yrs HIV positive child’s life expectancy –7 yrs.
  • A person dies of HIV every minute MORE than 1 in 5 children will be orphaned in 2010.
  • There are approx 1 million orphans in Zimbabwe due to the AIDS pandemic.

TANAKA FOUNDATION aims to become advocates for HIV/AIDS orphans and vulneable children in Zimbabwe and the rest of Africa, as well as increase the level of funding by governments of wealthy nations for HIV/AIDS orphans. Our core services includes Advocacy and Mobilisation, providing Social support and Medical care services. We will achieve this by following these three Es principle:

EDUCATION: Knowledge is power. Make people aware of the risks of contacting HIV, the consequences and how to avoid it.

EQUAL ACCESS: Provide equal opportunity to access treatment and reduce the price of drugs and testing in Africa

EXAMPLE: If one of us is HIV+ we all have it. We must all begin by confronting the overwhelming social stigma of the disease. This will help dvelop methods of care and effective ways to deal with the illness for both the infected and affected. Live and lead by example.

TANAKA FOUNDATION clients continually confide in their counselors that their children's future is one of their greatest concerns. As they struggle to fight the disease and remain strong for their children, they fear an uncertain future. TANAKA FOUNDATION launched Make A Difference Initiative in response and identified 800,000 orphans and vulnerable children in Zimbabwe.

Recognizing that education is the best response to the plight of orphans and vulnerable children, TANAKA FOUNDATION Keep A Child Alive Initiative aims to provide scholastic support to the neediest clients' children.

    The Formal Education Support
